A transition, not a single moment

Perimenopause is a clinical life-stage transition, but no app, quiz, or single lab value should declare that you are in it. Experiences vary, and other health questions can overlap with commonly discussed changes.

A useful starting point is to record what changed, when it began, how often it happens, and what affects it. That history can make a clinician conversation more productive.

What bloodwork can add

Testing may add context for selected questions, but hormone levels can vary and bloodwork alone does not diagnose every cause of symptoms. Test selection and timing should reflect the individual clinical question.

Ask what the test is intended to clarify, what could affect the result, and how the result would change the next step.

Prepare for the conversation

Bring a concise symptom timeline, current medications and supplements, cycle information when relevant, personal priorities, and questions. Urgent or severe symptoms need appropriately scoped medical care rather than an online educational tool.
